The aim of Colorado State University-Global Campus is to make online bachelor’s degrees affordable and accessible to adult students. With help from the Daniels Fund, CSU-Global will increase the number of scholarships it provides to those who are close to completing college degrees but cannot afford to pay their remaining tuition.
In the past, CSU-Global has used money from the Colorado-based Daniels Fund to provide Boundless Opportunity Scholarships to its students. The $15,000 in extra funding Daniels Fund recently contributed will allow CSU-Global to expand its On-The-Horizon Scholarship Program through the end of the 2014-2015 academic year. The On-The-Horizon-Scholarship Program provides college scholarships to students who are within 24 credits of earning their bachelor’s degrees, but who have significant financial needs and are approaching the limits of their federal financial aid.
The Daniels Fund was founded by Bill Daniels, visionary business leader and decorated World War II fighter pilot. Upon his death in 2000, his estate, totaling $1 billion, was transferred to The Daniels Fund a private charitable foundation that gives out grants and scholarships. The Boundless Opportunity Scholarship Program is a Daniels Fund project dedicated to aiding non-traditional students in earning college degrees. It awards grants to several colleges and universities throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, and those colleges then award scholarships to students in need of financial aid.
Colorado State University-Global Campus, created in 2007 by the Colorado State University System Board of Governors, was the first completely online state university in the United States. CSU-Global offers bachelor’s degree and master’s degree completion programs to non-traditional students. CSU-Global’s expert faculty specialize in working with adults in online education environments.
CSU-Global offers multiple college scholarships every trimester. These includethe Boundless Opportunity On-The-Horizon Scholarship; the Parent/Guardian Scholarship, for students working toward a college degree while parenting children, and the First Generation College Student Scholarship, for those who aim to be the first in their immediate family to earn a college degree.
The number of students who do not have college degrees but are burdened with student loan debt is on the rise. For adults and other non-traditional learners who may have family responsibilities, it can be difficult to pay off student loans. The extra scholarships now available due to increased contributions from the Daniels Fund will give adult students at Colorado State University-Global Campus another option, allowing them to finish their online degrees and improve their chances of personal and professional success without going further into debt.
